Who we are
About Sub-Horizon
Sub-Horizon is the first and so far the only technical student organization at NTNU Ålesund. The organization aims to promote practical and interdisciplinary competence development for students in across engineering fields.
We started operations in 2023, and two years later, the organization currently hosts 23 members. We have a close collaboration with NTNU, where we enjoy their full support. Through dialogue with lecturers, students are able to get assessed through work done in Sub-Horizon. Already this year, we will have a bachelor project done here at Sub-Horizon.

Sub-Horizon day
About Sub-Horizon day
2025/2026 will mark the first official Sub-Horizon Day — an official NTNU event designed to showcase our development through a live, fully autonomous demo.
During the event, our mothership will deploy the ROV near an exploration site, where it will inspect a shipwreck before returning and autonomously docking back on the mothership.
This event is intended for the local industry, highlighting student innovation in marine robotics and autonomous underwater operations.

Our board
About our board
Sub-Horizon is made up of volunteers, and we have structured the organization so that members can focus on creating while the board handles administrative tasks, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes
The board currently consists of 6 members, each with their distinct responsibilities. Additionally, we have divided the organization into teams, each with a dedicated team leader. Every three weeks, we hold a joint presentation where each team shares their progress.
